Otay Lakes Float N Fly, Remote Control Amphibious Airplanes, San Diego, CA - Nov 17, 2007 - Enter
This is a unique event in that a portion of the lake is dedicated to this event for the entire day. Most of the participants are local but some do come from the LA area and out-of-state. There were probably over 30 airplanes on hand at the beginning of the day with approximately 24 going home they way they arrived. More images available here.

F5B USA Team Trials, San Diego, CA - Sept. 29 -30, 2007 - Enter
This is a big event, the USA F5B Team Selection Trials and Inter-Galactic F5B Championships. Very skilled RC pilots compete for a place on the US Team. They fly very fast sleek aircraft and compete with number of runs through a course as well as unpowered glide time. To catch one of this with the motor on, read this propeller spinning is a difficult task.

MWE Spring Fling, San Diego, CA - May 20, 2007 - Enter
This is a 3 day "fly-in" event that attracts people from San Diego, out of town and all the way from the East Coast. The weather was fine and I was able to get some images from Sunday. The flying skills of many accomplished pilots is very good, consider that fact that right is left when you look at the front of the plane and up is down when the plane is inverted. Find out more about the Silent Electric Flyers of San Diego here.

Mission Bay Electric RC Field , San Diego, CA - February 4, 2007 - Enter
This is a popular electric field close to my home. It provides plenty of opportunity to practive panning and prop spin. But are slightly easier since RPMs on the electrics are a bit faster allowing for a faster shutter speed. Some of the small planes are also very fast and, in some cases, very difficult to catch.

Chula Vista Model Radio Control Club Field - Enter
This club meets so close to Mexico the Border Patrol watches them fly from their ATVs! CVMRCC has a great little field in South San Diego County where they fly gliders, helicopters and the standard RCs planes, ok the planes are much better than standard. If you are interested in an image let me know and I will be glad to E-mail to you. I will probably return for more high speed photo R&D. Thanks for your hospitality. Learn more about CVMRCC here.

Float n' Fly - November 2005 - Enter
Ok, these are small radio control planes that sure look real. Center above is an example. Every year a local RC club is granted permission to use Otay Lake in Chula Vista, CA. Early morning was very calm making for good flying, the wind picked up and you can see the problem with wind chop.
